Responsibilities

Operates and maintains municipal electric utility distribution and generation systems under contract to MRES in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties.

Other duties may be assigned.
1.    Assists with the operation, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of the electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.
2.    Maintains the inventory, time and material records for all work performed.
3.    Operates the electric distribution vehicles and related equipment.
4.    Manages the operation and maintenance of the electric generating plant systems including the planning and scheduling of necessary maintenance and the successful completion of any unscheduled maintenance required.
5.    Performs all wiring of designated load management systems and oversees the operation and maintenance of those systems and as assigned in other MRES member utilities
6.    Performs the installation, maintenance, testing and calibration of all metering equipment, substation systems and controls in accordance with established operating and maintenance procedures.
7.    Performs the customer meter installations and disconnects as directed.
8.    Performs the installation and maintenance of the public outdoor lighting systems.
9.    Performs the inspection, monitoring and documentation of the operations, maintenance and testing of distribution, generation and associated equipment and facilities as directed.
10.    Advises the Crew Leader and Electric Distribution Superintendent in the planning of distribution system modifications, improvements or extensions as directed.
11.    Apprentice and/or Journey Electricians work under the direct guidance of the Master Electrician; coordinate apprenticeship programs through the Electric Distribution Superintendent. 
12.    Performs all work in accordance with all applicable safety policies, programs, procedures, and reporting systems to assure a safe working environment for all personnel and the general public.
13.    Performs general maintenance of the electric distribution vehicles, equipment and storage areas.
14.    Represents MRES at training seminars and conferences as assigned.
15.    Keeps abreast of relevant profession, industry and inter utility developments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED. Must possess and maintain the appropriate state-required Master Electrician license with field experience; or equivalent military experience or Completion of 60 Credit Hours Electrical.

Must have and demonstrate thorough knowledge and skill in use of methods, materials and tools used in construction, operation and maintenance of municipal electric utility systems; knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of electrical distribution work; knowledge of the principles of electrical theory as applied to electric distribution systems and demonstrates the ability to apply this knowledge to work situations. Must have the ability to demonstrate skill and experience in the operation of all vehicles, equipment and tools used in the construction, maintenance and operation of the electrical distribution systems.

Mathematical Skills 
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Reasoning Ability 
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software; Design software and Spreadsheet software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), first aid certification, and competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
