Responsibilities
Operates and maintains municipal electric utility distribution systems under contract to MRES in a safe and efficient manner by performing the following duties.
Other duties may be assigned.
1. Performs the operation, construction, reconstruction, maintenance and repair of the electrical distribution systems and associated equipment.
2. Maintains the inventory, time and material records for all work performed.
3. Operates the electric distribution vehicles and related equipment.
4. Performs the operation and maintenance of the electric generating plant systems and associated equipment.
5. Assists with the installation, maintenance, testing and calibration of all metering equipment, substation systems and controls in accordance with established operating and maintenance procedures.
6. Performs the customer meter installations and disconnects as directed.
7. Performs the installation and maintenance of the public outdoor lighting systems.
8. Performs the inspection, monitoring and documentation of the operations, maintenance and testing of distribution, generation and associated equipment and facilities as directed.
9. Advises the Electric Distribution Superintendent in the planning of distribution system modifications, improvements or extensions as directed.
10. Serves “On-Call” and responds to call-outs of reported electrical system or service problems.
11. Performs all work in accordance with all applicable safety policies, programs, procedures, and reporting systems to assure a safe working environment for all personnel and the general public.
12. Performs general maintenance of the electric distribution vehicles, equipment and storage areas.
13. Represents the Agency at training seminars and conferences as assigned.
14. Keeps abreast of relevant profession, industry and inter utility developments.
15. Assists in developing departmental budget and capital improvement requirements.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) equivalent and completion of Lineworker Apprenticeship or status as a 1st Class Journey Lineworker. Demonstrated experience in performing construction and maintenance work on overhead and underground dead or energized conductors, structures and equipment. Knowledge of fundamentals of electricity related to the construction, maintenance, and operation of distribution and transmission lines and equipment.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and health card, first aid certification, competency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and pole top rescue.
