Energy Services Technician I

Responsibilities

Provides a variety of non-invasive proactive maintenance testing services to improve energy efficiency, safety, and operational reliability by performing the following duties.

Other duties may be assigned.

Energy Services Technician I:
1.    Provides proactive maintenance services (to include: infrared thermography, ultrasonic testing, motor circuit analysis, oil sampling and/or vibration analysis) using industry approved repeatable testing methods, standardized MRES analysis procedures and approved reporting programs. 
2.    Prepares, analyzes, and communicates test results to the customer to include, but not limited to, both immediate on-site recommendations and follow-up report analysis. 
3.    Practices and adheres to MRES standard operating procedures for the on-site delivery of each proactive maintenance service. 
4.    Practices and adheres to MRES, industry, and customer safety requirements and performs all work in accordance with all applicable safety policies, programs, procedures, and reporting systems to assure a safe working environment for all personnel and the general public.
5.    Develops and enhances working relationships with both current and potential customers based on service potential and need. 
6.    Promotes proactive maintenance services by educating members and their customers on program benefits. 
7.    Represents MRES on industry, development, and project committees, task forces, and conferences as assigned.
8.    Creates and helps maintain permanent documentation of projects, data, and software related to this position. 
9.    Travel by motor vehicle and work at customer sites represents the majority of time spent in this position to include several overnight stays per month.  
10.    Keeps abreast of relevant profession, industry, and inter-utility developments.

Education and/or Experience 

Energy Services Technician I:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year related experience and/or training in mechanical and/or electrical experience in the commercial or industrial maintenance field and/or proactive maintenance related training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Energy Services Technician II:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of ten years related experience and/or training in infrared thermography, ultrasonic leak detection, motor testing, and/or vibration testing; or equivalent combination of education and experience.   

Mathematical Skills 
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability 
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills 
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Database software; Microsoft products including Word, Excel and Outlook, Contact Management systems; and Internet software.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. 

Energy Services Technician I:
Must have a Level I certification in infrared thermography, ultrasonic detection, motor testing, and/or other services as approved by MRES management, or ability to obtain within six months from date of hire; or must have a Vibration Analyst Category I certification, or ability to obtain within one year from date of hire.

Energy Services Technician II:
Must maintain a Level II certification in two of the following sciences: infrared thermography, ultrasonic detection, and/or vibration analysis, plus a certification or specialized service training in one additional applicable proactive maintenance science. Must have one industry-based technical paper accepted and published and has presented findings at a national conference.
