2025 Transmission Summer Internship

Missouri River Energy Services (MRES) is seeking an Electrical Engineering student interested in the transmission  side of the electrical utility industry for a full-time summer internship in our transmission services group (chiefly within the planning team) located in our Sioux Falls, SD corporate office.  The position begins in mid-May and goes through mid-August. 

In this position, you will be working on a variety of projects dealing with transmission facilities owned by MRES and its member municipal utilities. This may include, but not limited to, responsibilities such as:  updates to our geographical transmission records, powerflow (simulation) analysis, facility ratings documentation, facility testing records collection, automation of rate forecast tools, automation of load data analyses, and assistance with contract exhibits and more. We emphasize that our interns should have the opportunity to learn while helping to achieve our goals.

Working conditions will include office work primarily, and may include opportunities to visit transmission and/or generation facilities.  With those opportunities, there may be circumstances requiring occasional exposure to temperature and noise.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Qualifications:    

  • Knowledge of basic to advanced electrical principles.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Word and  Excel.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Desire to pursue a career in and learn about the electric energy industry.
  • High school diploma and enrolled for higher education at a college / university with an ABET-Accredited Engineering program.
